Facebook Inc. FB, -1.44% will pay $52 million to its content
moderators who developed PTSD while working for the social-networking
giant, according to a report [A] in The Verge on Tuesday. The news site
cited a preliminary settlement filed Friday in San Mateo [Calif.]
Superior Court. The payment comes after the news outlet reported about
Facebook content moderators facing trauma and developing PTSD with
severely limited mental resources last year. As part of the legal
agreement, Facebook will provide its employees with more counselling,
and at least $1,000 to all eligible current and former content
moderators with diagnosed PTSD or other conditions. A reported 11,250
moderators qualify to receive a share of the settlement funds.
