Hundreds of angry protesters in Argentinean capital Buenos Aires have
thrown rocks and flaming bottles at the British embassy after Britain
announced it would deploy its most advanced warship in the South Atlantic.


The Argentinean protesters’ anger came after British Prime Minister
David Cameron described Argentina’s claim on the Malvinas islands, which
are located 25 nautical miles from the country, as “a profound wrong.”

“We are rightly proud of the role Britain played in righting a profound
wrong,” Cameron claimed as he marked the 30th anniversary of a 72-day
war with Argentina over Las Malvinas which has been a British colony
since 1833.

Furthermore, the British media reported that Cameron has once again
ruled out the possibility of negotiations over the archipelago saying
there would be “no compromise” over Las Malvinas.

In response to Argentina’s calls for negotiations, Britain took
provocative measures. In February, the British government deployed the
Duke of Cambridge, Prince William, on the Malvinas islands to serve a
six-week military mission.

Argentina criticized his arrival saying he was “dressed in the uniform
of a conquistador” while he could be “wearing civilian dress.”

Furthermore, on Monday 2 April, Britain’s Ministry of Defence announced
that the Navy’s most advanced warship, destroyer HMS Dauntless, would
set sail from its base in Portsmouth for Las Malvinas this Wednesday.

Argentinean protesters expressed their anger by burning the effigy of
Prince William as they marched to the British embassy in Buenos Aires.
However, they were confronted by the police as they tried to storm the
building of the embassy.
