The US attorney-general Eric Holder has named a special prosecutor,
John Durham, who will investigate cases of prisoner abuse by the CIA. Mr Holder's decision, which promises political headaches for US President Barack Obama, came after the Justice Department's ethics watchdog recommended considering prosecution of CIA employees or contractors for harsh interrogations in Iraq and Afghanistan that went beyond approved limits.
