CANNOT GET ARRESTED:
'Fight breaks out in front of Marriott Wednesday, March 24, 2010 Matt FairSTAFF WRITER TRENTON -- A melee broke out among a crowd of people milling on West Lafayette Street Saturday night after a fire alarm was activated at the downtown Marriott hotel. According to fire officials, the hotel had to be evacuated after someone pulled a fire alarm station in the building. While searching the building, firefighters inside noticed that a fight had broken out on the street below and called for police assistance. Police did not report any arrests.' CAN NOT BUY ANY MORE: Apartment buildings auctioned off Wednesday, March 24, 2010 STAFF WRITER TRENTON -- The Carteret Arms apartment building on West State Street sold for $13 million yesterday and the Grand Court Villas apartments, a former cigar factory on Grand Street, sold for $4.8 million, a real estate agent who attended the auction said. Anne LaBate of Segal Commercial Real Estate, who was representing a client at the auction in Iselin, said the event drew a large number of bidders and the prices came in higher than expected. The buildings were sold by Plainfield-based Connolly Properties, which bought the 15-story Carteret Arms in 2007 and has been criticized for allowing the 50-year-old building and its other properties to deteriorate. It also auctioned three Pennsylvania properties. Most of the more than 3,000 apartment units the company manages, including the Carteret Arms, have been tied up in foreclosure and bankruptcy proceedings, according to published reports. The auction company, Sheldon Good & Co. of New York, said it could not confirm the sale prices or identify the buyers until later this week." |
